Léger carillon de l’eau sur le rocher. Il y a dans ce tintement l’écho lointain d’une langue oubliée : agréable babil que les premiers hommes partageaient avec les fauvettes et les poissons-lunes. Avec, aussi, ces petits rongeurs aux yeux doux qui peuplaient le continent désormais englouti de Lémuria. Édénique séjour dont l’île de Praslin est le dernier vestige. Longtemps préservée des incursions humaines, l’île jardin enseigne aujourd’hui son idiome d’harmonie à ceux qui s’y arrêtent. Le vent, les antiques tortues, l’eau limpide, sont ses discrets professeurs.

La caresse du temps a poli les blocs de granite dont les vénérables silhouettes ponctuent le paysage : les trois plages immaculées, le foisonnement végétal d’un jardin exotique de 120 hectares et même le miroir d’eau des piscines à débordement. Blocs de silence et de majesté, ils attendent en secret l’hommage d’une visite. Celle, annuelle, des tortues de mer. En venant pondre dans la poudre corallienne elles attestent de la parfaite préservation du site.

Les yeux fermés on entend au loin, derrière le rideau de bambous et de vacoas, l’ample respiration de l’océan. On s’y accorde puis on prépare sa peau à la délicatesse d’un soin Shiseido. Bientôt les oshiboris chauds commenceront leur action régénérante. Les yeux ouverts, on goûte à la sobriété raffinée, apaisante, de l’architecture. Dehors, la nuit crépite d’étoiles et de lucioles, des effluves de gardenia montent de la terre.

La petite balle blanche s’est d’abord élevée dans le ciel puis a traversé l’azur marin et la gamme des verts, du foncé vers le clair. Elle est maintenant immobile, sur le green n° 15 : on vient pour ce spot, même non initié, pour admirer la vue Ultimate. Les Villas du Lémuria, depuis le large, on ne voit rien. Rien d’autre qu’un rideau de végétation luxuriante bordant une plage immaculée, ponctuée de rochers polis par les millénaires. C’est pourtant là, dissimulées par leur toit traditionnel en latanier que se tiennent les villas du Lémuria, havre de calme et de confort au coeur de l’île la plus sauvage des Seychelles.

The gentle tinkle of water lapping against the rocks. The distant echo of sounds from a forgotten tongue, the pleasant chatter that early Man exchanged with warbler birds and sunfish. The little lemurs, too, with their wide eyes, that used to inhabit the lost continent of Lemuria. A lost Eden, of which Praslin Island is the last vestige. Humans came late here so the garden isle remained untouched, now a lesson in harmony, for those who pause awhile. The teachers are all around, but unobtrusively: the breeze, the ancient turtles and the crystal-clear waters.

The gentle hands of time have polished the blocks of granite whose ancient silhouettes dot the countryside. There are, too, three immaculate beaches and some 300 acres of tropical gardens full of lush vegetation; even the mirror-like surfaces of the infinity pools add to the harmony of the place. Against the silent and majestic backdrop, a secret lurks, the annual visit of the sea turtles. Their egg-laying ritual on the coral sand is testament to the site’s perfect natural state.

Eyes closed, in the distance, behind a curtain of bamboo and vacoas screw pines, the ocean breathes in and out. As you fall in with its rhythm, you let your skin succumb to a delightful Shiseido treatment. Soon you start to sense the regenerative impact of the hot oshibori towels. Eyes open, you take in the sophisticated and soothing understatement of the architecture. Outside, the night sizzles with stars and fireflies, and the fragrance of gardenia wafts through the grounds.

The small white ball has first flown into the heavens, standing out against the blue of the sea and the dark then lighter shades of green. It comes to a standstill on the 15th green ; this is the spot where they come, even the non-golfers, to admire the view, the ultimate view. A good shot adds to guests’ pleasure at playing for free and at will on a championship golf course designed by Marc Farry. Later, you can think back to it all over dinner On the Rocks or in Anse Georgette, unmissable experiences in exceptional locations. These are moments beyond compare, charged with sensations that will last for ever.

The Villas at Lémuria, there’s no sign of the Villas from out at sea, just a ring of tropical plants bordering an immaculate sandy beach, dotted here and there with age-old rocks and boulders.
